Harikar NGO, with the support of UNHCR, successfully concluded the 2026 Refugee Protection Monitoring Exercise/Data collection phase in Duhok Governorate and Zakho Independent Administration (ZIA) on 30 July 2026, in line with the agreed implementation timeline.

The data collection phase, conducted in June and July 2026, achieved and exceeded all agreed targets. A total of 248 household assessments were completed against the agreed target of 230 households, representing 107.83% achievement. In addition, 8 Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) and 4 Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) were successfully conducted, achieving 100% completion for both components.

The exercise generated valuable information on the protection situation, emerging risks, access to services, and challenges faced by refugees and asylum-seekers. During the process, protection concerns requiring further attention were identified, and relevant cases were referred to the UNHCR Protection Focal Point, with the consent of the individuals concerned.

Overall, the successful completion of the exercise provides an updated evidence base to support protection response, operational prioritization, advocacy, and planning of UNHCR in 2027. Harikar NGO appreciates the continued support and coordination of UNHCR, as well as the participation and cooperation of refugees, asylum-seekers, key informants, and community representatives throughout the exercise.
