United Nation Deputy Special Representative (Development and Humanitarian Support) for Iraq, Ms. Christine McNab visit PAC
On 28 January 2010, Ms. Christine McNab, DSRSG visited the Protection and Assistance Center (PAC)
operated by Harikar NGO in Dohuk Governorate under UNHCR funding programme.
The visit was part of Ms. McNab visit to Dohuk Governorate. At Harikar NGO office, Mr. Salah Yasin,
Harikar NGO programme coordinator received Ms. McNab. After short briefing about PAC and Harikar NGO work,
PAC staff introduced to Ms. McNab and demonstrated to her their daily activities to provide required services for IDPs,
Refugees, Returnees and other people of concern to UNHCR. At PAC office, Ms. McNab met with group of IDPs families served by PAC.
UNHCR Dohuk staff support and coordination in the field with Harikar NGO staff illustrated as
the cornerstone for the great success of PAC activities. In addition, Harikar NGO and UNHCR staff experiences and
consultation with concerned local authorities and PAC beneficiaries further assured the success of PAC activities
and reaching the set objective to contribute to alleviate part of the IDPs, refugees and returnees suffering.
Harikar NGO established in May 2004, strive to promote, support and protect the rights of all citizens and particularly
of vulnerable groups. Harikar NGO through PAC activities funded by UNHCR contribute to assure that the rights of those IDPs,
Refugees and Returnees advocate and work to assured and protect their rights

During the reporting period, the main achievements were as follows: |

On 18/5/2011 Harikar NGO held the induction meeting with the stakeholders of NDI funded project under Promotion of Accountability and Transparency (PAT) titled (Monitoring Implementation of Iraq Labor |

UNHCR had approved the delivery of basic needs of NFI and Hygiene kits to 13 families. On 21st December 2010, Protection Assistant center (PAC) in Harikar was able to distribute NFI & Hygiene Kits to 13 IDP families benefiting 70 individuals in Sumel district and Baroshke quarter in Dohuk city center. |

Harikar continued extending the possible support to People of Concern (PoC) to UNHCR. As UNHCR decided to provide PoC with NFI and hygiene kits regularly, this time the approval was given to 808 individuals of 113 families |

In recognition of the importance of NFI and hygiene kits for People of Concern (PoC) to UNHCR. In Oct 14th,2010, 149 families from Basitke, Malta Islam, Shareya, Semel, marina, Telkaber and Dohuk city center were planned to be covered after they were identified in August 2010 by PAC mobile teams. |

As part of the regular follow up made by PAC mobile team (Protection assistant and Lawyer), different locations (Merseeda in Atrosh, Sardarya village in Amedy, Tanahi collective, Girbeshi village in Dinarta, Azadi Collective in Sarsing were visited where hosting 81 IDP families and 361 individuals |

mobile team (Protection assistant, Lawyer and community services) visited Alaman / Shekhan district where 15 IDP families (60) individuals are living. The mobile team met with the IDPs representative and some IDPs to identify their basic need then to be reported to UNHCR.

As part of the protection assistant activities conducted during the period 2nd – 8th August 2010 field visits made to different locations to assess and identify the needs of 242 families and 649 individuals of Refugees. |

Harikar is continuing in providing assistants to people of concern (PoC) to UNHCR. However, in July 2010 Harikar PAC mobile team was able to make many field visits to different locations assessing the basic needs of IDPS |

In order to lessen the suffers of most vulnerable groups in the society and ensure child right to recreation and exercises, Harikar had celebrated World Refugee Day on Jun 20 2010 |
|
Considering sanitary napkins as significant need of people of concern (PoC), UNHCR had made an agreement with Harikar to distribute sanitary napkins to targeted females of age group (13-49 years old. |
|
As part of the project agreement signed in 2010 between Harikar and UNHCR to provide the necessary assistant to people of concern (PoC) to UNHCR, Harikar PAC mobile team was able to make many field visits during April 2010 assessing the basic needs of IDPS in different locations. |

Under the project of Protection Assistance Center funded by UNHCR, PAC Mobile team had visited Qadiya villages in Sumel, Malta Islam (Uliya) / Dohuk and Chamkurke village in Zakho district. Also, PAC mobile team visited Zakho district and having a meeting with the representative of the district mayor. |

Under the project of Protection Assistance Center funded by UNHCR, PAC Mobile team had visited Moqible refugee camp in Sumel, Zivenke Village in Mangesh, Avriki village in Zawita district and Gregawre refugee camp in Sumel |

In order to identify the difficulties facing 243 families in Mesreike settlement, the PAC Harikar mobile team visited them on 17th March, 2010 and their basic needs were listed down. |

Based on UNHCR request, on 16th March, 2010, another visit was paid to Zakho District aiming at collecting necessary information and related data on groups of old and new IDP\s, refugees and returnees who are living in public buildings |
|
As part of field visits made by mobile team of Harikar PAC in Dohuk and in accompany with UNHCR focal point, three Christian IDP families fled from Mosul recently and resided in Dohuk city center were visited on 15th March 2010. |
|
PAC management, technical and field staff attended 3-day training workshop in Erbil during 1st - 3rd March 2010. |

The vast majority of IDPs women are not working now, as 475 women out of 492 (96.5%) women interviewed by Harikar NGO, during a community based study conducted across Dohuk Governorate among IDPs women, stated they are not currently working. |

Harikar NGO, through Protection and Assistance Center funded by UNHCR and in coordination with UNCHR Dohuk staff distributed essentials non food items to the most vulnerable 155 families in 11 locations across Dohuk Governorate in September 2009 |

The Protection and Assistance Center (PAC) funded by UNHCR and run by Harikar NGO in Dohuk Governorate, continue to provide free legal guidance, assistance and advices to IDPs, returnees and refugees across the Governorate. |

Eighty five families received Non Food Items "NFI" (2 blanket, 2 mattress, 1 stove, 1 kitchen set, 1 plastic sheet, 2 quilt, and 1 water and 1 kerosene jerry can) in June 2009 by the Protection and Assistant Centre run by Harikar NGO across Dohuk Governorate. |

World Refugee day, June 20th was celebrated in Dohuk Governorate, by Kurdish Turkish refugees children.
Fifty five refugee's children were hosted by Dohuk Dream Entertainment City inside Dohuk City and enjoyed playing for more than 3 hours at the city. This initiative was sponsored by Dream City management on response to Harikar NGO and UNHCR Dohuk approach. |
